Jean Grey is targeted by the Phoenix Force. The two teams meet on the moon, where the Phoenix force arrives and, it possesses a part of Jean but and a few other X-Men. Jean is starting to lose control, and the Phoenix consumes her when Cyclops arrives to get her. The two leave, and in the final battle, Cyclops steals Jean's power to become the Dark Phoenix. After Cyclops defeat, Jean gets the full power of the Phoenix Force. She and Wanda combine their powers to drive away the Phoenix from Earth by saying "No More Phoenix." This results in mutants across Earth regaining their powers, but unfortunately, Jean Grey dies in the process, sacrificing her life for a better cause.
