Her father, King Oedipus of Thebes, was loved by whole country and his children Antigone, Ismene, Eteocles and Polyneikes. Daughters kept their love for him, but only Antigone escorted him into exile to help him. A power struggle ensued between the sons, Eteocles allied with Uncle Creont, and the Polyneikos were expelled. He found allies in Athens and marched with the army against Thebes. Seeking support from Oedipus, the prophecy provided that the battle for Oedipus would be won. Failed, Oedipus refused to approach him for his previous conduct and cursed, "Before you conquer Thebes, you will fall in blood and Eteocles will die with you." The brothers fought for power, mortally wounding each other. Creon won throne, made a funeral for Eteocles, and forbade Polyneikos to be buried. Antigone disobeyed. She knew she had to bury the body so the soul could go to the realm of the dead. She picked up the body guarded by the guards and buried it, the guards caught her and took her to Creon, gave her the death penalty and wanted to kill her sister as well, she accepted, but Antigone stopped her. Antigone was defended by Creon's son and her fiancé Haimon. Creon did not execute her, but had her walled alive into the tomb. Teiresias warned Creon that the gods were angry, and had Polyneikes buried. He went to free Antigone, she was dead. She hung herself. Next to Haimon's body, he stabbed with a sword. Eurydike, Haimon's mother killed herself. Creon begged the gods to kill him.
