It was while working in the U.S territory of Puerto Rico that he was murdered in cold blood by fellow wrestler and promoter Jose Gonzales on July 17, 1988. The killer was let off by the court system due to negligence in the legal proceedings, and because wrestler and owner of the wrestling company Carlos Colon paid off the police and judge.
