Mazeus was the satrap of Syria, and at Gaugamela commanded the left flank of the persian formation. He gave a lot of problems to Parmenion in the battle, reaching even the baggage, stopped only after Alexander had already won on the other side of the field. Mazeus surrendered to the Macedonians and declared his loyalty. So he was upgraded to the role of satrap of Babylon, until 324 BC, when Seleucus replaced him.
