Craterus was one of Alexander's generals, and one of the most trusted. He commanded some phalanx's battalion in the first battles, and gained better commanding positions after Gaugamela, becoming second in command after the execution of Parmenion. He was appointed strategos of Europe, replacing Antipater, with the responsibility to lead the veterans in their journey back to Macedonia slightly before the death of the king. Arrived in Greece he joined the old Antipater, fought by his side against the rebellious Greeks and Eumenes, dying in a battle against him.
