Considered a legendary warrior with exceptional skills, Porus fought unsuccessfully against Alexander the Great at the Battle of the Hydaspes (326 BC) in what is now Pakistani Punjab. In the aftermath, an impressed Alexander not only reinstated him as his satrap, but also granted him dominion over the lands to the southeast, extending as far as Hyphasis (Beas). Porus supposedly died sometime between 321 and 315 BC.
