Aaliyah Haughton was born January 16, 1979, in New York City and her family moved to Detroit when she was five years old. She was a straight A student at the Detroit High School for the Fine and Performing Arts. At the age of eleven, she performed with Gladys Knight during a five-night stand in Las Vegas.
Signed to a Recording contract at the age of 12. Aaliyah became an overnight R&B sensation at the height of a stardom and in turmoil with her relationships a fatal plane crash ended her life but her legacy lives on.
