Muhammad Anwar al-Sadat (1918-1981) has been the third President of Egypt. A former counselor of historical President Gamal Abdel Nasser, Sadat stopped the influence of the Nasser's Socialist Party in the country and opened a debate with Israel, becoming the first Arab leader to visit the Israeli part of Jerusalem in 1977. He was assassinated in 1981. He is remembered as a controversial figure.read more
